01 — The problem
Why dispatch boards and paper job sheets don't scale
Many service teams run on a whiteboard, a shared calendar and paper job sheets. Dispatchers phone each field service technician to reshuffle the day, notes come back illegible, and billing waits for someone to type up parts and hours. Return visits start with history scattered across texts.
Off-the-shelf field service management software is built for a broad market. Your crews may need certification checks before certain jobs, contract response windows or an inspection checklist per equipment type.
02 — What to build
Building blocks of a field service app
Start with what dispatch and technicians handle daily:
Jobs with customer, site, equipment, job type, priority and time window
Dispatch board with technician skills, certifications and today's schedule
Technician job view with site notes, equipment history and a checklist per job type
Parts used and time on site, logged on the job
Customer sign-off and completion notes
Follow-up jobs created when a repair needs a second visit
Roles
dispatcher, technician, service manager, billing (read-only)
03 — How to build it
How to build a field service app with Henosia
Set up a private project, a sandbox where nothing is live until you publish.
Load mock data
sample customers, sites, equipment, technicians and a week of past jobs.
Connect a database for jobs, technicians, parts and visit history.
Describe the operation in Plan mode
The agent asks about job types and priorities, then proposes a plan. You decide when to build.
Build a first version with dispatcher and technician views.
Test in the field with two or three technicians on the devices they actually carry.
Publish to office staff and crews.
An example Plan-mode prompt:
Build a field service app for our HVAC maintenance team.
Dispatchers assign jobs to technicians based on skill (electrical, refrigerant) and region.
Emergency jobs jump to the top; contract customers must be scheduled within their contract window.
Technicians see today's jobs, fill a checklist per equipment type, log parts and hours, and capture sign-off.
Completed jobs appear in a daily list for billing.Paste it into a private Henosia project in Plan mode. The agent asks questions and proposes a plan first.
04 — Before you go live
Getting from pilot to daily operations
Field service apps touch customers, billing and subcontractors, so decide early:
- Who owns the job data and the equipment checklists
- What technicians can edit, and what only dispatch or managers can change
- Integrations with scheduling, inventory or billing systems. Henosia can work with data connections and API-based data; scope each integration per system, data direction and access level.
- External access: plan which subcontractors see which jobs
- Who approves publishing and rollout to all crews
Run the pilot alongside your current process first. Real jobs surface exceptions mock data never will.
For internal maintenance rather than customer visits, see our work order system guide.
Start a private project in Henosia, add a week of past jobs as mock data and plan field service software that fits your crews.

Frequently asked questions
What is a field service management app?
A field service management app helps you schedule, dispatch and complete work at customer sites. Dispatchers assign jobs by skill, location and priority. Technicians see job details, follow checklists, log parts and time and collect sign-off. Managers and billing see completed work without waiting for paper job sheets.
Do I need developers to build a field service app?
Not for a first version. A service manager or dispatcher can describe the operation in Plan mode and build without writing code themselves. Bring in IT when you connect live customer, inventory or billing data, set write access, open access to subcontractors or need someone to approve publishing.
Can subcontractors use the app securely?
Henosia Authentication supports access based on your company email domain, more granular app-level access, optional IP restriction and the option to give external vendors access. Decide exactly which jobs and customer details each subcontractor can see, and confirm specific security requirements with Henosia before sharing real customer data.
Does it work with our existing scheduling or billing software?
Possibly, but scope it per system. Henosia can work with data connections and API-based data, so decide which data the app reads, which it writes and how often. More point-and-click connector interfaces are on Henosia's roadmap. Many teams start with a simple export to billing.
